Suggested Cooking & Holding
Your Dungeness half crab clusters are delivered frozen and partically cooked. While additional cooking is required, it is not necessary to thaw Dungeness crab before cooking unless your recipe specifically uses raw crab in the shell.
Steam:
- Bring water to a boil and season as desired before steaming frozen Dungeness crab. Cover and steam for up to 25 minutes.
- A plate over an inverted bowl may be used in place of a steamer rack to prevent boiling Dungeness crab. CAUTION! Do not touch hot plate, bowl or steamer rack. Use tongs while handling Dungeness crab
- Dungeness crab clusters are fully cooked about 5 minutes after the salty aroma of cooked crab fills the air of the kitchen. Stir crab to assure even doneness.
- Approximate cooking time is 25 minutes for frozen Dungeness crab. Boil 2 inches water in a large pot. Once the frozen dungeness crab has been added to the pot, begin timer. Allow 5-7 minutes for hot water to return to a boil and an additional 15-20 minutes to steam and cook dungeness crab clusters . Total cook time 20-25 minutes.
Grill:
- 300 degrees for Dungeness Crab clusters.
- Baste crab clusters with oil and season as desired*
- Grill frozen clusters for 20 minutes covered and turning once.
- Dungeness crab clusters are fully cooked once they begin to release their delicate aroma. Turn clusters once to assure even doneness.
- You may cover crab clusters with wet seafood if using hot dry heat above 350 degrees F.
Bake:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Season crab as desired
- Add 1/2 inch of water to your roasting pan, add seasoned crab and cover. Cook 25 minutes or until you can easily smell your cooked crab is done.

Amanda’s Serving Suggestions
It is not necessary to thaw Dungeness Crab before cooking unless your recipe requires lump crab meat before cooking.
Steam:
- Bring water to a boil and season as desired before steaming frozen Dungeness Crab clusters. Cover and steam for up to 25 minutes.

- Approximate cooking time is 20-25 minutes for frozen dungeness crab. Once the frozen crab clusters have been added to the pot, allow 5-7 minutes for hot water to return to a boil and an additional 15-20 minutes for Dungeness Crab to thoroughly cook.
Grill: [Using thawed crab clusters]
- 350 degrees for Dungeness Crab clusters.
- Baste crab clusters with oil and season as desired
- Set clusters on top rack or indirect of heat source. Close grill, and grill for 6-7 minutes turning once.
- Frozen crab should be rapped in foil before grilling. Grill as above for 20-25 minutes.
- Dungeness Crab are fully cooked about 5 minutes after you can smell the aroma of cooked crab form the sea.
Bake:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Add light oil and season as desire
- Wrap crab clusters in foil or covered pot with 1 inch water or wine
- Bake Dungeness Crab clusters for 25 minutes when frozen and 15 minutes for thawed dungeness crab clusters.
