How It Works
Enroll Online
Community Supported Seafood (CSS) is a members-based organization that allows you to purchase a “share” of the Alaskan Seafood harvest.
Your shares can include wild Alaskan king salmon, sockeye salmon, coho salmon, halibut, rockfish, sablefish, and more.
Harvesting CSS Fish
Once the seasonal fishery for your selected share(s) is open, CSS will begin purchasing wild fish from fishermen and processors. We only source our seafood from harvesters who employ low environmental impact methods.
The time required to harvest the CSS may take from one week up to 2 months depending on weather, vessel condition, fishery management closures, and the available biomass of fish to be harvested.
Processing and Packaging
Upon harvest, your superior wild and sustainable seafood is landed at a local Alaskan seafood processor. Here all fish are filleted and cut into portions of about one pound. They’re then individually vacuum-sealed and blast-frozen to preserve the quality of the fish. All of our processing partners operate USDA and FDA certified facilities.
Shipped by barge
After processing, multiple CSS fish orders are transported together via temperature controlled marine barge from Alaska to Seattle, Washington.
Barge transportation can be from 2 weeks up to 6 weeks depending on weather, container availability, and barge schedules.
Trucked from Seattle to Philadelphia
After arriving at port in Seattle, CSS is carefully loaded into a temperature controlled truck and is transported cross-country to our warehouse in Philadelphia.
The duration of time required for this stage ranges from one week to 3 weeks.
